Meditation Series Preparations
Monday August 8 – Friday August 12, from 7-7:15 am cst, come sit for a mid-summer meditation series, live stream. All will be recorded.
Five ways to prepare:
1. This weekend, decide on your meditation location and stick to it for the week. Prep the space. Set out your cushion you’ll sit on and add a few meaningful elements (flowers, stones, photos). If you prefer sitting in a chair (I do), do the same and prep the space. I sit at my desk, but before I do I clear it off, put away papers and arrange meaningful items in a little grouping.
2. Spend a few minutes thinking about why you want to join the series. What is it about for you? Not that you necessarily need a goal or a concrete outcome by any means, but what is your aspiration for getting to your meditation practice for five days in a row? Write it down and keep it at your desk as a reminder.
3. The night before, make sure you’ve scheduled Do Not Disturb on your phone/computer to remain on at least through meditation. Try your absolute best not to go on any websites or apps at all before we sit, just turn on your phone/computer to get to the class screen. The liminal space between waking and meditation is a special and sacred time. It’s a time when nothing from the outside world matters one bit…just you and your body, mind, and breath.
4. Starting now, offer yourself grace. If you set an intention on January 1 to meditate more or start a practice, and now it’s August…so be it. What matters is what you do today. What you do today will inform the rest of the year. Don’t spend any energy on what was supposed to be. Instead, devote your attention and energy to your upcoming five days of practice. I’m so excited and honored to sit with you.
5. At the end of each 15-minute sit, place your hand on your heart and tell yourself you did a good job showing up that day to your meditation.
